The consequence of 2012 will bring more harm than good

I just wanted to write a short statement on the 2012 Mayan prophecy just before this so called shift of conciousness is meant to take place.  Let me be perfectly clear, there will be no shift in conciousness, no end of the world, no return of a cosmic Christ  and no spiritual enlightenment!  Should aliens make contact then you might want to look up project bluebeam. Let me be absolutely clear, the 2012 prediction is a cruel hoax and will bring with it more harm than good.  So when it doesn’t manifest as the new agers have parroted for a number of years now then expect the following to happen:

1) Rationalisation; having invested a great deal of time, effort, money and reputation the new age believer will look for an alternative explanation such as:
a) The shift is taking place but cannot be noticed since it is a slow process now set in motion and may take decades to fully manifest.
b) It would have happened but the negative Christians held us back, its their fault.
c) The ascended masters / federation of light / space aliens etc decided the time is not quite right and so reasons we are not meant to know yet, the time has been set back.
d) Not enough participants this time, we need more people to join in.
2) Anger, disillusion and despair  having placed so much on this only apparent hope for some form of alternative salvation nothing happens. Disappointment may be something most believers will be able to shrug off.  Most will just look to their new age leaders and swallow the next elaborate story.  For some however it will be too much making this serious matter for concern.  I think it is plausible to expect the following:
a) Increased abuse and ridicule of current new age leaders and their minions.
b) Increase of violence towards religious groups, especially towards  both Christians and Jews.
c) A growing minority of people exhibiting abnormal behaviour and absurd claims.  A possible increase of mental illness including clinical depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis and anti social disorder.
d) The chances of suicide is extremely high both before and just after 21st December.
The aftermath may continue well into the new year with many tragic events never reaching the media.  In either way, just as with all religious cults people get hurt and some people die.  We can only pray that through realising this is a cruel hoax some may come to know the true Lord and Saviour – Jesus Christ.

I think I am a medium, what can I do to tap into this gift?

Dear reader,

I have one question for you “Do you know for sure these entities with whom you wish to communicate with are who they say they are?”.  If the answer is yes then please read on….

I am an ex-medium and for a very serious reason.  Elaborating on my original question, how do you know for a fact that the entities that are trying to contact you are who they claim to be? Isn’t it fair to say that without a system in place you cannot know and therefore run a serious risk of being deceived? So why is it we loose all ability of critical thinking when it come to the subject of spirituality?

I understand this may not be the answer you want but if you are seeking the truth then please continue. Having been born as a medium and having practised such things, being labelled as a powerful medium bought more questions into my life than answers (and more thirst for secret knowledge too).

I mean this with great compassion and caring, this stuff in very dangerous and very dark. Read 2 Corinthians 11:14, this verse warns us that evil can parade as an angel of light, therefore it has no problem manifesting as a passed loved one.  It is a very cruel and evil deception and not an easy one to accept. These beings are real, as real as you and I but far more intelligent and very supernatural. So extraordinary that it would fool any person without the means to discern such things.  Evil really does exist and just because something is of spirit does not mean it cannot lie, after all do not the spirits of mediums often get things wrong? Of course they do and that’s because they lie. Ask yourself, if they can lie then isn’t that deception?  You can be sure it is!

If you haven’t already listened to my testimony (of an ex-medium) then here is the link:

This is a collection of videos from Laura Maxwell, an ex-spiritualist

In response to ‘unity is a false religion’

This is a comment I receive on my post ‘unity is a false religion’.

I am responding to as a new post as some of the points merit a far more visible platform. This is in response to Josh:

Please note: this is not meant to be an attack on Josh personally, however as he has stepped up and defended unity a clear and honest response is warranted.

This is what Josh wrote:

“He did not write his own bible. Sorry you feel this way. My question is why put down a group of people if you don’t agree? Live and let live. If its wrong for you than great keep following what you do. If we are in such dis repair than let that be on our shoulders. No need to worry bout us. We do follow christ. We know and have felt Gods love. Positive affirmations about Gods love and what truly matters in life is what we believe. Being spiritual is not a bad thing. Yet so many ‘Christians’ are threatened by it. Why? Unity doesn’t question or hate other religions. If one is at peace with their relationship with God and follow Christ’s teachings than they would love ALL people as they love themselves. Blessings!”

Ok, let break this down.

Point No.1
Josh: “He did not write his own bible”

Gaz: “You are referring to Fillmore, right? I’m haven’t stated that he has however it is evident that he has not only taken away scripture from the bible but also added his own ideals to fit his agenda. Fillmores quote “Jesus the man represents the path toward a higher consciousness” is hardly biblical and evidence of replacing Jesus Christ the saviour with an ideal that fits his needs”.

Josh: “Sorry you feel this way. My question is why put down a group of people if you don’t agree? Live and let live. If its wrong for you than great keep following what you do. If we are in such dis repair than let that be on our shoulders. No need to worry bout us. .”

Gaz: “As much as I respect your views and your God given right to free speech I do not agree with Fillmore and his doctrine of lies. So understand this is in no way a personal attack on those deceived by the lies of Fillmore. I am merely pointing out facts about Fillmore’s attack on Jesus Christ and the Christian faith. Its not a case of ‘worrying’ as many of those in Unity are happy to accept Fillmore’s anti-Christian stance at any cost. My concern is more towards those who have been deceived by Fillmore’s lies into thinking Unity and Christianity are compatible or that Unity is truth above the Bible.”

Josh: “We do follow christ.”

Gaz: “Not the same ‘Christ’ as outlined in the Bible. Fillmore’s christ (with a small ‘c’ is a mere representation of a path towards what he and many eastern mystical religions describe as higher conciousness. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many Matthew 24:5

Josh: “Positive affirmations about Gods love and what truly matters in life is what we believe.”

Gaz: “This is straight out of Hinduism which Fillmore has undoubtedly styled his religion on. Positive affirmations will not lead you to salvation. ‘Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.’ (Acts 4:12)”

Josh “yet so many ‘Christians’ are threatened by it. Why? Unity doesn’t question or hate other religions. ”

Gaz: “I would actually expand on this, everyone is threatened by false doctrines, not just many Christians. Fillmore despised the teaching’s of God and created his own religion and his own flock which he, even after his death is still leading people astray.”

Josh: “If one is at peace with their relationship with God and follow Christ’s teachings than they would love ALL people as they love themselves. Blessings!”

Gaz: “You statement makes the assumption that we are all capable of following the LAW of God. We are not, we are sinful, we are a fallen race and that’s why God sent his only begotten son to bare the sins of humanity and through his grace save us. Fillmore’s christ is not the same as Jesus Christ the Lord and Savour.”

Bill and Melinda Gates population control is nothing more than a cull.

What sickens me about the elitist attitude is their sly and manipulative method of delivering their evil plan to
soft kill others peoples children. Bill Gates is clear about his views, he has been quoted on camera stating that
we should kill off old people in favour of the young. His wife Melinda Gates is drumming up hysteria over the population
propaganda campaign to reduce population via fabian style means. Does she really believe her off spring have a
higher value than those in Africa? Well, yes, the Gates believe they are Gods and if you think that’s an exaggeration
then you may want to research these people, not just hold faith in the nightly news. The elites mantra of over population
is founded on lies, the earth could easily sustain a massive increase in human population so why are people believing
in these false ‘prophets’ of doom?

Matthew 7:15-20
You Will Know Them by Their Fruits

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Is the New Age religious belief system correct?

People nowadays are rejecting the one and only true living God of the Bible and instead are mixing many different beliefs to form their own personal “spirituality.” This new age spirituality says that God is everything and that everything and everyone is God. This new age spirituality claims that death and sin are just an illusion, that you create your own heaven or hell. This new age spirituality claims that reincarnation occurs until a person reaches oneness with God. And this new age spirituality claims that Jesus Christ was just a man, someone to be looked at as a teacher, someone who became an “ascended master,” and that Jesus is not needed as our Saviour because we all have the potential to become like God.

But the Bible tells us something very different about who God is, who Jesus Christ is, who the Holy Spirit is, and what is mankind’s relationship to God. Let’s search the Scriptures to see just how dangerous it is when one begins to believe that they are equal to God. Here are some of the topics that will be covered:

I originally wrote these pages to give to a person I know who has become interested in the new age movement. Interestingly enough, after reading this, the person has become very standoffish towards me. All I can say is “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? (Galatians 4:16)

When you first read some of the new age literature, it sounds pretty harmless. You read of love and oneness and peace and truth. It all sounds very positive. You may even see some Bible verses referenced — verses such as “the Spirit of God dwells in you” or “God loves you, you have been chosen.” But the new age literature then takes it a step further. The new age belief system teaches that since God created you and the Spirit of God lives in you, then you, too, must be God. This is where the new age spirituality has now twisted God’s Word and has entered into a dangerous, rebellious position against the only true and living God. Let’s see what the Bible has to say about who God is and whether or not we can ever be His equal.

Isaiah 42:8, “I am the Lord; that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.”

Isaiah 45:5, “I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God besides me.”

Isaiah 44:6, 8, “Thus saith the Lord, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.”

Isaiah 43:10, “…I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord, and beside me there is no saviour.”

Isaiah 45:18, “For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord, and there is none else.”

God’s Word is very clear that there is one God and that He does not intend to share His glory with his creation, period! But now we have this “new age” teaching that says, “You, too, are God.” But as we will see, this type of mindset isn’t really so new after all.

Wanting to be equal to God, is nothing new. Let’s read of the first created being who desired to be as God. His words are in Isaiah 14:14. “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.”

Who said these words? Lucifer, Satan, the devil himself. As a matter of fact, Satan later even filled Adam and Eve’s heads with the same foolish notions. He lied to them and told them to go against God’s instructions. Satan said, “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil..” (Genesis 3:5).

Whenever you hear someone whisper to you, “you can be like God,” they are repeating the words of the devil himself! They are giving you evil counsel that will lead you to a place of ultimate destruction.

Let’s see how God felt when Lucifer wished to become equal to Him. Ezekiel 28:2, 7-9 reads, “…Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God … behold therefore, I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness. They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas. Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slayeth thee.”

Satan will fall and be cast into the lowest depths of hell because of his desire to be as God and because of his rebellion against God, and the same fate awaits all others who choose to elevate themselves to equal standing with God. Let’s read additional verses that describe what awaits Lucifer because of his wanting to be as God. Isaiah 14:15-17, (Speaking of Satan) “Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?”

Hell was created for satan and all of the angels who joined satan in rebellion against God. People of this day who desire to model satan’s wish to become as God have the same fate awaiting them (hell) if they don’t realize who the one true and living God is and turn from their sins and accept God’s gift of grace.

We all have the true knowledge of who God is written on our hearts, but new age spiritualists choose to exchange the truth of God for a lie. Romans 1:18-20, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”

People, including new agers, know in their hearts who God is and that they themselves are not God, but they choose to become vain and worship themselves as God. The rest of Romans speaks on this:

Romans 1:21-23, “because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man…”

When you begin to think that you are the same as your Creator, it is similar to a vase created by hand out of potter’s clay turning around and saying to the potter, “I am you.” That clay will never become that man who formed it, and you will never become God. Romans 9:20 speaks on this: “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay?”

The Bible clearly shows that we are not God, and no matter how good we think we are or how much kind work we do or how enlightened we become, we will never attain equality with God. Romans 3:23 reads, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” And Isaiah 64:6 reads, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags.” And 1 John 1:8 tells us, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” So if God’s Word is telling you that you fall short of God’s glory and that your righteousness is as filthy rags, and some sinful man is telling you that you, too, have God potential, who are you going to believe?

People are attracted to new age teachings and beliefs because the idea of being God-like is much more attractive than the knowledge that you are a sinner who deserves hell. But what are you going to say when you die and come face to face with the one true righteous God? When God shows you how you’ve broken every commandment and how you rejected Jesus Christ as your Savior, will you tell Him then that you qualify for heaven because you, too, are God? Hebrews 9:27 tells us, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” And Romans 14:10, 12, reads,”…For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ…So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” If you do not today open your eyes and see that you are not god-like and that instead you are a sinner in need of a Savior, you will face the sad truth later when it is too late for you.

God made a way for us to be able to stand before Him on judgment day innocent, a way for us to be adopted into His family now and forever. No, you cannot be God, but you can be a child of God. But it is nothing that we can do in and of ourselves. It was something done for us long ago at Calvary. Romans 5:8-9 reads, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”

Don’t let the new age way of thinking deceive you into rejecting God’s gift of salvation. People who practice new age principles have nothing in common with God. Someone who disobeys God’s Words found in the Bible is someone who doesn’t even have fellowship with God. John 8:47 tells us, “He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.” New agers reject Christ, deny the existence of heaven and hell, distort the truths of the Bible, and are in rebellion to God.

You only have two choices: You are either for God or against Him. If you reject God and the sacrifice God made for you by having Christ die at Calvary for your sins and instead choose some man-made spirituality, then you will die in your sins and eternally be separated from God. John 8:42-44 reads, “Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me; for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do…”

New age spirituality in all of its different forms and names is really just man’s attempt to get away from the one true and living God. We are given many warnings against such teachings. Jeremiah 23:16-17 reads, “Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you; they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord. They say still unto them that despise me, The Lord hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.”

And Colossians 2:8-10 warns, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.”

These verses are warning you not to fill your mind and heart with useless words from sinful man. New agers promise happiness and fulfillment in a man-made lie. God’s Word tells us, “But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”

In conclusion, there was only one man who ever walked the earth who could claim to be God: Jesus Christ. 1 Timothy 3:16 reads, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up unto glory.”

And John 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” And John 1:14, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

And in Hebrews 1:8-9, God calls Jesus God. “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”

Jesus was not just an enlightened master or teacher, and Jesus did not claim to be teaching mankind the truth; He claimed that He was the Truth. In John 14:6, it reads, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” What Jesus taught is important, but what is more important is who Jesus is. Jesus is God, and He is our only way to approach God. 1 Timothy 2:5 tells us, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all…”

Again, what are you going to choose? New age spirituality or Jesus Christ as your Savior?

So what does God of the Bible say about mediumship?

When I go out into the world and onto the internet I will often come across someone declaring they are speaking to spirits of dead people or to angles of light.  They will often declare that such beings are from God… but are they?  What does God, that is, God of the Bible say about such things?

Leviticus 19:31

Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.”

Leviticus 20:6

“I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people.”

Deuteronomy 18:9-14

“When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.”

1 Samuel 28:7

[This is a long account about King Saul of Israel when he consulted a woman who was a medium because God had forsaken him and no longer answered him. He did what he knew was forbidden. There’s more to this story which you can read in context.]

2 Kings 17:16-17

“They forsook all the commands of the LORD their God and made for themselves two idols cast in the shape of calves, and an Asherah pole. They bowed down to all the starry hosts, and they worshiped Baal. They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire. They practiced divination and sorcery and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger.”

2 Chronicles 33:1-6

“Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years. He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, following the detestable practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites. He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had demolished; he also erected altars to the Baals and made Asherah poles. He bowed down to all the starry hosts and worshiped them. He built altars in the temple of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “My Name will remain in Jerusalem forever.” In both courts of the temple of the LORD, he built altars to all the starry hosts. He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced sorcery, divination and witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

Job 31:26-28

“if I have regarded the sun in its radiance or the moon moving in splendor, so that my heart was secretly enticed and my hand offered them a kiss of homage, then these also would be sins to be judged, for I would have been unfaithful to God on high.”

Isaiah 8:19-20

“When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.”

Jeremiah 8:2

“They will be exposed to the sun and the moon and all the stars of the heavens, which they have loved and served and which they have followed and consulted and worshiped. They will not be gathered up or buried, but will be like refuse lying on the ground.”

Ezekiel 8:16-18

“He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the LORD, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east. He said to me, “Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the house of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually provoke me to anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose! Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.’”

Zephaniah 1:4-6

“I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all who live in Jerusalem. I will cut off from this place every remnant of Baal, the names of the pagan and the idolatrous priests–those who bow down on the roofs to worship the starry host, those who bow down and swear by the LORD and who also swear by Molech, those who turn back from following the LORD and neither seek the LORD nor inquire of him.”

Romans 1:25

“They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator— who is forever praised. Amen.”

Acts 7:42

“But God turned away and gave them over to the worship of the heavenly bodies. This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets: ‘Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the desert, O house of Israel? You have lifted up the shrine of Molech and the star of your god Rephan, the idols you made to worship. Therefore I will send you into exile’ beyond Babylon.’”

Acts 16:16-19

“Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her. When the owners of the slave girl realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.”

Acts 19:18-19

“Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds. A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas.”

Was Jesus crucified on a cross or a tree?

Was Jesus crucified on a cross or a tree?

by Matt Slick

Jesus was crucified on a cross, not a literal tree that had leaves on it.  The Greek words for cross and tree are different.  Let’s take a look.  The Greek word for cross is σταυρός “stauros”:

“literally cross, an instrument of capital punishment, an upright pointed stake, often with a crossbeam above it, or intersected by a crossbeam (MT 27.32); (2) by metonymy, as the means of atonement punishment of the cross, crucifixion (PH 2.8); as a religious technical term representing the significance of the atoning death of Jesus in the Christian religion cross (1C 1.18); metaphorically, the dedication of life and the self-denial that a believer must be prepared to take on himself in following Christ (LU 14.27)”1

The word (σταυρός, stauros) “cross” occurs 27 times in the New Testament in 27 verses: Matthew 10:3816:2427:3227:4027:42Mark 8:3415:2115:30;Mark 15:32Luke 9:2314:2723:26John 19:1719:1919:2519:311 Cor. 1:171:18Gal. 5:116:126:14Eph. 2:16Phil. 2:83:18Col. 1:202:14;Heb. 12:2.

Now, let’s focus on one of them, Matt 27:40 which says, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

This is a definitive verse that deals with exactly what Jesus was crucified on, and the Greek word in the verse is “stauros.”  Therefore, Jesus was crucified on a cross.

Tree, as in a growing plant with branches, is the greek word δένδρα “dendra” and it occurs 25 times in 18 verses in the New Testament: Matthew 3:107:17;7:187:1912:3313:3221:8Mark 8:24Luke 3:96:436:4413:1921:29;Jude 12Revelation 7:17:38:79:4.

There is no use of the word “tree” (δένδρα “dendra”) in reference to the cross.  If that is so, then why do some Bibles translate it into the word “tree” when referencing Jesus’ crucifixion?  For that, let’s look at a third word.

Sometimes the Greek word for wood is used of the cross.  The word ξύλον “wood” occurs a total of 20 times in the New Testament.  Those that refer to the cross of Christ are:

  • Acts 10:39, “We are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross (ξύλον, wood).”
  • Acts 5:30, “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross(ξύλον, wood).”
  • Acts 13:29, “When they had carried out all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the cross (ξύλον, wood) and laid Him in a tomb.”
  • Galatians 3:13, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (ξύλον, wood).”
  • 1 Peter 2:24, “and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross (ξύλον, wood), so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.”

So we see that the Bible uses the terms interchangeably.  But this doesn’t mean that Jesus was crucified on a literal tree.  Remember, above in Matt 27:40we see exactly which word is used to describe what Jesus was crucified on, a cross.

“You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross,” (Matt. 27:40).

Jesus was crucified on a cross, not a tree.

Did Jesus really die on the cross?

Did Jesus really die on the cross?

by Matt Slick

Yes, Jesus really did die on a cross. The scriptures teach this in numerous places.  Following are two of them:

  1. “And as they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they pressed into service to bear His cross… 35 And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots; 36 and sitting down, they began to keep watch over Him there,” (Matt. 27:32,35).
  2. “And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.  25 And it was the third hour when they crucified Him,” (Mark 15:24-25).
  3. “And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left,” (Luke 23:33).
  4. “The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every soldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece. 24 They said therefore to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be”; that the Scripture might be fulfilled, “They divided My outer garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.”  25 Therefore the soldiers did these things. But there were standing by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene,” (John 19:23-25).
  5. “Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified,” (Acts 2:36).
  6. “but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness,” (1 Cor. 1:22).
  7. “You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?” (Gal. 3:1).
  8. “and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame,” (Heb. 6:5).
  9. “And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which mystically is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified,” (Rev. 11:8).

There is dispute on the Greek word for “cross” which is “stauros.”  It can mean an upright stake or a cross.  Therefore, some groups like the Jehovah’s Witnesses, say that Jesus died on a vertical stake.  But then, others simply deny that Jesus was crucified at all and they claim He died of old age or some other natural sickness. Both of these conjectures are in error according to the New Testament.

First of all, there is a verse in the New Testament that demonstrates Jesus did not die on a vertical stake without a cross bar.  If Jesus died on a vertical stake, then His hands would have been placed together over His head, one on top of another. It would be very easy to then take a single nail and drive it through both wrists at the same time. This is how crucifixion was done when victims were crucified in this manner.  However, if a person was crucified on a cross, then two nails were required, one for each wrist, since the hands would be spread apart.

If we look at  John 20:25 we see that the plural word “nails” is used in reference to Jesus’ hands.

“The other disciples therefore were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I shall see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe,” (NASB).

The plural form “nails” is used.  This means that more than one nail was used upon Jesus’ hands.  Therefore, we can conclude that the most logical explanation for the plural use of nails is that there is at least two nails, one for each hand that was stretched out from left to right as would be done if Jesus were crucified on a cross.  This would mean that the torture stake, or the vertical stake theory would be invalid.

Did Jesus really die on the cross?

According to the gospel accounts, Jesus went through six different trials before He was condemned to die on a cross. Three of the trials were before Gentiles and three were before the Jews. He was repeatedly put before people to be tried and the whole time He was under heavy guard.  They knew who Jesus was. So, this excludes the possibility of mistaken identity. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely that the Romans would have crucified a man by mistake.   Remember, Jesus had been performing many miracles and was quite well known in the area. Since the Roman soldiers had Him in their possession during the trials, during the beatings, and finally on the way to the cross, the most logical conclusion is that they did not make a mistake and crucified someone else instead of Jesus.  Therefore, we can logically conclude that Jesus really did die on a cross.

Some methods of witnessing to new agers

  •     New age claim to have self-godhood:

(* = new age buzz word)

Statement: “We are all God”

Rationale: “Our own ignorance has prevented us of obtaining the full ‘*realisation’ that we all possess a *divine potential.

Counter question: “so if we are truly divine then it is quite extraordinary for our divine self to be so easy overpowered and paralysed by our ignorant self.  How can the lower human self so easy subdue the all-knowing, all power divine?”

  1. Why do our “realities” contradict each other?
    1. They might say that they don’t contradict each other. They are simply different shades of light on the same picture (or something vague like that).
    2. Then ask if truth contradicts itself. It does not. The logic is that if we are all in different forms of truth, then these different truths can’t ultimately contradict each other–or they wouldn’t be true. However,…
      1. The NAM says that Jesus is only one of many ways to God. But Jesus said He was the only way to God (John 14:6). They can’t both be right; therefore, the NAM teaching that we can create our own truths can’t be true.
  2.    Don’t let them take Christian words and use them out of the context of biblical meaning.
    1. New Agers recognize the tremendous influence and spotless reputation of Jesus. They want Him to be associated with their beliefs. As a result, you might find yourself facing a New Ager who uses Christian words–but with non-Christian definitions. Listen carefully, and don’t let them  steal what is Christian and transplant it into their system.
    2. You must question the terms they use. You need to make sure that what they mean by Christian terms is the same thing that you mean by them.
  3. Listen for internal contradictions.
    1. As mentioned above, truth does not contradict itself. You must listen to what they are saying and ask questions. Sooner or later you catch on to inconsistencies.
    2. Inconsistencies usually arise when discussing the relationship between reality and belief.
      1. For example, a New Ager might say that you can create your own reality. I might reply, “Good. Then if I believe red lights are really green, would you want to go driving with me?”
  4.   Tell them that God is personal, that he loves them, and that Jesus died for sin.
    1. The Word of God will not come back empty without accomplishing what God wishes it to (Isaiah 55:11). If you focus on Jesus, tell them the truth about sin and salvation, and use Scripture, then, at least, they will have heard the truth. Praise be to Jesus the Christ.
    2. Remember, God’s word is powerful. Whether or not they accept it isn’t the issue. You simply need to present the truth in an accurate and loving manner (Col. 4:5-61 Tim. 1:5).
