Doreen Virtue – A Biblical analysis of her FAQ.
This is part of Doreen’s FAQ with my response is in Italics
Why do we pray to angels? Aren’t we supposed to pray to God?
The angels don’t want us to worship them or make them into “gods.” They want all glory to go to God. So, we don’t pray to angels. We only request their help and have conversations with them.
Two instances are given in the book of Revelation where an angel told John that he was not to worship him, because he was only a servant (as was John). “And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (Revelation 19:10) And, again “And I John saw these things, And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren the prophets and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.” (Revelation 22:8-9)
The Bible makes the position of the angels clear. In contrast to Jesus, in the book of Hebrews, it is obvious whom is to be worshipped and why. “Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.” (Hebrews 1:4-8)
God stipulates, in the Old Testament book of Isaiah, that he is the creator even of the angels and he has named them all. “To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? Saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.” (Isaiah 40:25-26)
Doreen continues to state… Angels are a gift from God, and our Creator intends for us to benefit from His gift to us. So there is nothing wrong with engaging in conversations with angels.
Nowhere in the Bible does not tell us how to communicate with angels and there is not one verse that indicates we should consult them. We are clearly warned not to seek such information from mediums and spirit-guides (Lev. 19:31 – ‘Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.”).
It’s clear therefore the actgions that Doreen is suggesting is antrary to the bible, God has never said and i quote “there is nothing wrong with engaging in conversations with angels”.
What about Jesus?
Doreen was raised as a Christian, and she continues to talk to God, Holy Spirit, Jesus and the angels. She consults them before, during and after every one of her readings and sessions.
It’s interesting how Doreen describes God, the son and the Holy spirit as separate plus throws in angels as if they are somehow similar. On one side we have God the creator and on the other, we have angels, the created beings of God, Gods creation. So her statement requires further clairification as it is misleading.
First of all, consulting God of the Bible or Jesus Christ is Biblical. What is so biblical however is the consultations of created beings such as in this case, angels. When I was a medium it was common to pray to God and ask for his protection before and after a reading but it is clear that God does not permit communication with angels and therefore if it was not God I was praying to then who else might have been listening. Remeber, if we are not in obidence to God then we are in rebellion to him.
1 Corinthians 10:21
“Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.”
Therefore it is a contradiction to pray to the Lord, his angels and then consult spirits.
Doreen’s FAQ continues…. However, she realizes that many people are turned off when Jesus is “shoved down their throats.” She also knows that many people have suffered painful experiences in organized religious settings. So, Doreen prefers not to “push” Jesus upon people.
No one wants ideolgy and docrine shoved down their throats or to be caught up on the religious corruption of men. This is not the teaching of Jesus who made it very clear in Matthew 5:5 when he said “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” Nonetheless it is Gods wish for us to spread the God news of salvation, otherwise, what did Jesus really die for?
the FAQ continues… She respects everyone’s right to worship in whatever way they prefer. She does, however, believe that everyone benefits from having some sort of a spiritual path and a belief in a loving God.
Matthew 7:13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.”
There are many alternative religions and spiritual practices but not all are of God, on the contrary Satan is the great conterfeiter. The Bible in 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 warns of Satan’s counterfeit: “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness;. . .” Isaiah 14: 14 tells of Satan’s ultimate counterfeit: “. . . I will BE LIKE the most High.”
So what Doreen is suggesting and I quote “everyone benefits from having some sort of a spiritual path” is not true and spiritualy dangerous.
She continues… People of all faiths and cultures believe in angels, and Doreen’s workshop audience members typically come from all sorts of religious and nonreligious backgrounds.
Now can you see how in one aspect she champions the Christian perspective, having declared being raised a Christian she now switches gear suggesting her workshops cater for all religious and non-relgious groups. Why would a Christian devise a course that was compatitible with non-believing Christians?
All are welcome! Doreen says, “I believe that the best teacher is experience. I know that when someone is trying to convince me of something, I back away. But if I have an experience, then my mindset is instantly changed.” So, Doreen works to create positive and life changing experiences at her workshops.
New age teachings go against biblical teachings in that elightenment comes through experience and through experience comes wisdom. It is more based on Gnostisim and certianly not what God of the Bible encourages. As a good friend of mine sometimes says “even witchcraft works”, ..but it doesn’t mean that we should be dabbling with it.
What about what the Bible says, that it’s wrong to consult with mediums and talk to the dead?
Doreen feels peaceful about her therapeutic conversations with deceased loved ones of her audience members.
Just note here she is prepping her next statement. In other words she preparing the reading to accept that if something feels good then it is good. That there is a secondary benefit for you to hire her services.
She says, “We certainly don’t want to turn our lives over to our deceased loved ones. After all, it’s just as easy to contact God for guidance, as it is to ask for dear old Aunt Edna’s advice. Why would we turn to an eighth grader, when we can just as easily consult with the chief professor? To me, this is what the Bible is warning us against.”
No this is not what the Bible warns against. The Bible tells us not to consult ‘familiar spirits’, these are demons disguaising themselves as deseased loved ones. Once you consult a medium you are effectively opening the door to satanic influences. The Lords warns us not to dabble with mediumship in any way, he warns us in Leviticus 19:31 . “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them.”
Moving on, remeber how she clevely preppt us on the theraputic benefits…
She continues… However, Doreen also strongly believes that there are certain therapeutic reasons for contacting the deceased.
For instance, when Doreen practiced traditional psychotherapy, she did a lot of grief counseling. “It would take months for people to overcome their grief this way,” she recalls. “But through the process of talking with their deceased loved one, people heal very rapidly. They’re able to express their feelings of hurt, anger, guilt, abandonment, loneliness, betrayal and other pent-up emotions directly to their deceased loved one, through the process of mediumship. Doreen says, “When I see people’s lives heal because they have contacted a deceased loved one, I don’t see how that could be a sin in any way. To me, it’s a process of love and forgiveness — the very properties that Jesus urged us to adopt.”
Ok, I have written about this before this is the single most reason why mediumship is so deceptive. If the familiar spirit which is really just a demon is a spiritual realm that isn’t chained down by time and space tells you things about dead relitives this is seen as a way to authenticate the source aka the messenger. The demon, posing as Great Auntie Agatha can quite easily give the medium accurate information about the life and specific instances of the life of the Aunt. It’s as simple as that, it’s a spiritual conn trick that even Doreen I suspect has been clearly duped by.
What about fallen angels? Is there such a thing? Aren’t you worried that the devil will disguise himself as a beautiful angel and trick you?
As a clairvoyant, Doreen can see the spirit world in great detail. She says, “There are beings that are referred to as ‘fallen angels.’ In reality, they aren’t angels at all. Angels are glowing beings, filled with the inner radiance of God’s love. Angels have soft, feathery wings. Angels always talk about, and act from, Love. The “fallen angels,” in contrast, have no light in them. They have short, bat-like bony wings and clawed talons. They’re commonly called “gargoyles.” These beings aren’t creations of God’s love; they’re creations of man’s fear.
Show me a passage in the Bible where it describes Angels as having feathery wings? It’s a lie, angels are described in the bible as looking like men. Hebrews 13:2 clarifies this… “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
Likewise fallen angles are real and the bible is clear about this. 2 Peter 2:4
“for if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;”
Also, there is no reference to fallen angels looking like beings with no light in them… on the contrary, 2 Corinthians 11:14 states “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” So don’t be deceived into thinking fallen angels appear as ugly bat winged creatures as this is also not biblical.
She continues… The average person with loving intentions doesn’t need to worry about these dark beings. They think that loving, nice people are boring! Dark beings are attracted to those who abuse substances, and those who are dishonest, cruel, manipulative and obsessively afraid of evil.
This is clearly a response from either someone who does not know the word of God or is against it. 1st Peter 5:8-9 states
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
she continues… “Earthbound spirits” are another form of so-called “fallen angels.” These are deceased humans who, for a variety of reasons (fear of hell, materiality and so on.), stay rooted to earth. They are sometimes called ghosts.
The best way to clear away the presence of earthbound spirits and dark beings is to hold a constant mindset of Love. Think about God as often as you can. And call upon the Archangel Michael, who escorts away fear and darkness, to act as your “bouncer,” ensuring that only invited guests are by your side and in your home.
For more information on this topic, please see Doreen’s books, Archangels & Ascended Masters, Angel Therapy, Chakra Clearing, The Lightworker’s Way, or Healing with the Angels.
When we die we don’t just hang about on the earth, this is made clear in several places in the bible. John 5:28-29 states:
“for the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear His voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.”
Again, calling upon any of Gods creations weather angel or archangel as we have discussed is non-biblical and should be avoided at all costs. We should not call upon Archangel Michael to come and protect us but we should call upon the Lord Jesus Christ as he has already defeated Satan on the cross. He is the only protection we have.
I have left out the rest bar the last part of her FAQ as it was sales based and not relivent to this analysis. Her last statement reads…
How do I find out about my angels and what direction my future is going?
Doreen discusses this topic at her workshops and in most of her books, including Archangels & Ascended Masters, Angel Medicine and Earth Angels. You may also find it helpful to use Doreen’s various card decks, such as Archangel Oracle Cards, Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards, and Healing with the Angels Oracle Cards. These cards are an easy way to talk with your angelic, elemental and ascended-master realms. There are no frightening cards in the deck, as angels and heavenly beings always speak from a place of love.
My closing response:
We have already covered the non-biblical persuit of communication with Angels and we also know that even Satan can sppear as an angel of light so when you hear other descriptions such as Ascended Masters, Angel Medicine and Earth Angels or tools of divination such as Tarrot cards and angel therapy just remember what Jesus warned… “take heed that no one decieve you” Matthew 24:4.
All we can do is warn people about the dangers of the countfeit spirituality and offer the truth. We should also pray for Doreen and those that attend her workshops that the Lord will open their eyes ans ears to the truth.
